“You get to race with thousands of people, the energy and vibe is amazing.”
PREP YOUR KIT
Get all your kit ready the day before so you can relax in the evening and avoid any last minute stress the next day. No one wants to be running around trying to find their trainers or lucky socks the morning of the race!
HYDRATE
Hydrate! It can get quite hot inside the HYROX venues and it’s something that’s caught me out before and I found myself feeling super thirsty during the race which I don’t normally feel when running outdoors. Hydrate the day before, the morning off and inside the venue before you start. You can take water into the warm up area so you can sip it right before you start.
PACE YOURSELF
Pace yourself – HYROX is an endurance event, you’ll often be racing for over 75 minutes. You’ll have trained for this race and will probably know how fast you can run those 1km efforts. Focus on your own race, not everyone else in your heat. They might have a different game plan, or won’t have read this article and gone off to fast 😉
‘ROX ZONE’
Try and avoid stopping in the ‘Rox Zone’, this is the section between each station and the runs. You can save a lot of time here, even if you slow down, just try and keep moving at a jog or run pace.
RACE YOUR RACE
Some stations will feel easier than others, everyone has their strengths, sleds and lunges are something I find particularly hard, but on approaching them I just try and remind myself to keep moving forward, focus on my own race and slow down if needed. Theres a lot of runs and stations out there you can make back time!
Lastly, ENJOY IT!
HYROX is challenging yes, but it’s also a really fun day out. You get to race with thousands of people and the energy and vibe is amazing.
